Message from the Chief Recovery Officer

 By David G. Meckley
Chief Recovery Officer

I care deeply about the York community and I can’t imagine anything more important to the community than the long term health of the School District of the City of York.  Along with many people in the community, I have worked as a volunteer towards this same goal for many years with YorkCounts and the York County Community Foundation.  I look at my appointment as chief recovery officer as an opportunity to bring broad and significant resources together to create and implement a new vision for the School District of the City of York, and in doing so, make a significant positive impact on our community.

Because the legislation and the declaration of “moderate financial distress,” is relatively new (Chester Upland and Duquesne school districts preceded York and Harrisburg was designated along with York), the recovery plan process will evolve as we move forward.  A significant benchmark will be the creation of a Recovery Plan. While there is urgency to get the plan constructed, there is also a strong desire to make sure it is a solid plan.  It is my goal that when the plan is finalized the school administration, the school board, and the advisory committee will support the plan.
